About Us
Akesis Health US is a US-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to expanding access to essential medicines, diagnostics, and healthcare services for patients in low- and middle-income countries.
With 25+ years of experience across 35+ countries, we partner with public and private sector organizations to make quality care a reality.
-
Akesis (formerly known as the Axios Foundation) was founded in 2000 from the pioneering efforts of its founders in implementing one of the first antiretroviral (ARV) treatment programs in Africa.
-
Akesis is focused on advancing a new generation of locally driven, responsive, and sustainable health system-strengthening solutions where they are needed most.
In line with this commitment, since April 1, 2025, Akesis has been operating as two independent organizations: Akesis Health US and Akesis Health Nigeria. Akesis Health Nigeria now proudly operates as an independent, locally-led organization working across Africa, and Akesis Health US, a 501(c)(3) US public charity, is focused on current projects outside Sub-Saharan Africa.
This new structure allows each organization to be more agile and responsive to the unique needs of the patients, partners, and health systems they serve — ensuring that our impact remains strong and sustainable for years to come.
